THE RETURN

Formed in Hamburg in 1984, The Dead Hippies were a post punk project that quickly gained a reputation in the underground scene and scored a publishing deal with EMI. With a unique sound, that blended introspective lyrics with driving drum machine rhythms, atmospheric guitars and brooding synths, DH Inc.’s music was dark yet danceable – capturing the mood of the 80’s Cold War generation.

As a typical 80’s studio project, Dead Hippies initially was a duo that didn’t appear live and were known for their reclusive nature: After self-releasing an acclaimed cassette (“Heaven Is Waiting”) that is impossible to find today, DH Inc. completed their line-up in preparation of their first tour, but then vanished from the scene, leaving fans to wonder what had happened.

For years, fans of The Dead Hippies had given up hope of ever seeing the band perform. The group disappeared from the music scene without explanation, leaving behind only rumors and whispers about the sudden departure. Over the years, their legend only grew, with tales of one intense secret live show and their enigmatic leader, known only as “The Ghost,” becoming the stuff of myth.

But one day, a package arrived at a small record label. Inside was an unlabelled cassette tape with a handwritten note: “Greetings from the Beyond.”
The tape contained a series of never before heard songs, recorded with the same raw intensity and atmospheric sound that had made them so beloved back then. The music was unmistakably the work of the band, but there was something different about it, too. Something darker, more urgent, and more urgent than anything they had done before.

As news of the tape spread, rumors began to swirl about the band’s return. Some speculated that they had been in hiding all these years, perfecting their craft and waiting for the right moment to reemerge.

Whatever the truth may be, one thing is clear: The Dead Hippies Inc. are about to return. With the original live lineup, and finally ready to claim their place in the post-punk pantheon. Their music, still as urgent and relevant as it was in the 80s, is a testament to the enduring power of original post-punk.
Dead Hippies, Inc. are back.

More mysterious and enigmatic than ever before.
